Our Curriculum
Te Koromiko Swannanoa School - June 18, 2020
We are a PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) school, and base our programme around our taonga (values). We have a strong focus on developing the whole child, especially through these values. Our students are encouraged to show community (Pikorua), Success (Porowhita) Respect (Roimata) Kindness (Koru) and Integrity (Toki) every minute of every day.
Within each hapu, we have a team of highly skilled collaborative teachers who implement our philosophies of ‘Teaching at the point of challenge’ 'Predict and Prevent’ and ‘Solution Focused’. We are proud of being a semi-rural school and integrate rural values through our 'Seeds of Learning' programme. We design our curriculum using a 'Rich and Responsive' philosophy and we reach out to our community and proudly implement an inclusive atmosphere.
We offer a range of support programmes within classes for children with special needs. We have a team of dedicated learning support staff who work with individuals and small groups to provide support. Children with special abilities also have a range of activities to facilitate their learning.
The school has developed the 'Seeds of Learning' programme, which is integrated into the school curriculum. The purpose behind the Seeds of Learning is to better reflect our community within our school.
Aspects of the Seeds of Learning include animal husbandry (growing, caring and exploring the purpose of having animals), horticulture (growing a fruit forest and expanding the edible gardens) and sustainability. The programme provides a greater understanding of empathy and a knowledge of rural life and rural values.
Our school is an active school with many opportunities to engage in sports, physical education, adventure based learning and education outside the classroom.
