WHAKATAUKI

TKHS Newsletter —

During last week's celebration of Te Reo Maori week, a kaupapa was started which will have a whakatauki introduced and explained to the staff every Monday morning at staff briefing. Staff will then introduce it to the students, discussing its relevance in their everyday lives albeit education or personal. As Whaea Sharon explained “more than anything, it's about normalizing te reo Māori within our kura and aspects of te reo Māori that apply to student learning.” The first whakatauki learnt is a good case in point.

Kotahi anake te taiapa ki te angitu – ko koe

There is but one barrier to success – yourself

At last Monday's assembly I spoke to our akonga about this whakatauki and how relevant it was to them. The school and staff will provide the resources and learning programmes and environment for them, but the only thing stopping them from taking advantage of these are themselves.

END OF TERM

Term 3 has had a number of challenges; building issues, continued work towards ERO recommendations, moving into covid level 2 and subsequent cancelling of sport. This has had an effect on the overall wellbeing of staff and students so the coming holidays will be a welcome respite to all. Enjoy the rest, and come back refreshed and ready for Term 4.

Kotahi noa te tinana me te hinengaro, tiakina

You have but one body and mind, look after them
