Photography Competition Opportunity 📸

NZSSPC —

To all the budding photographers out there! Here's your chance!

Introduction:

The New Zealand Secondary School Photography Competition (NZSSPC) is a project created by youth, intended to serve as a platform where passionate secondary school photographers can promote their photos, as well as partaking in a friendly competition with like-minded students.

This competition is unique due to its specific target audience of secondary school students to ensure that students have a larger chance of achieving highly as they will be competing with people with similar skill levels.

The NZSSPC’s mission is to help bring the artworks of NZ youth to the wider community, and encourage NZ youth to explore concepts relevant to the current world.

The theme for this year’s competition is Peace. The idea of peace is familiar to both New Zealand and the wider world, with past and current events showing the importance of tranquillity and finding a moment of peace.

Therefore, this theme was chosen to encourage young photographers to appreciate the calm moments in life.

Photographers should feel free to interpret and illustrate this theme conceptually or realistically.

The concept of peace will be split into three categories, highlighting people, nature & still life. Students will compete with other students from across the country, and are eligible to submit up to three photographs each.

These photos can be in unique categories or feature in a single category multiple times, depending on the wishes of the contestant. All submitted photographs will be judged by a panel of adjudicators, with a shortlist of 6 photos from each category to be printed and displayed publicly in the final exhibition.

An additional People’s Choice Award will be given to the shortlisted photograph that receives the most votes from the public. These photos will additionally be featured on the NZSSPC website.

2022 will be the fourth year of this competition. Our three two years of running the competition were successful, receiving over 850 photographs. Our competition reached 73 different schools in 14 regions across the nation, demonstrating the broad reach of this competition. Encouraged by the success of past years, NZSSPC's goal moving into our fourth year is to receive around 500 pictures from 200+ individuals.

This competition is a great opportunity for aspiring secondary school photographers to showcase their skills.

Specifically, they are able to compete in an event especially catered to them, in order to develop their creative skills as photographers. This competition is both a chance for exposure and growth for the competitors, as well as a chance for the public to appreciate great photos.

Kind Regards,

New Zealand Secondary School Photography Competition.
