The only way to learn Mathematics is to do Mathematics – Paul Halmos.
Mathematics is a great motivator for all humans because its career starts with zero and it never ends (infinity). Mathematics is one language in which the meaning of each symbol can be defined precisely. Mathematics can be challenging, beautiful, powerful and fascinating.
Te Kūiti High School Mathematics Department has a strong team of teachers who are passionate about teaching Mathematics to young learners. They actively seek exciting and inclusive ways of engaging students.
Today, critical thinking, problem solving, reasoning ability and ability to communicate mathematically are essential skills. These processes are the foundation of mathematics instruction in all our mathematics classes at Te Kūiti High School. Aims for the study of Mathematics is to develop each pupil’s ability to:
Complete work neatly, logically, concisely and punctually;
Communicate orally concisely and coherently;
Plan their own work schedule;
Work both individually and as part of a group;
Work independently and with perseverance;
Be self-critical.
Year 9 ME – Secondary Schools Employment Partnership
On Thursday, the 5th November 9 ME walked over to Placemakers during the first period. This was part of our SSEP programme linking schoolwork and the real world of work.
Prior to Covid Craig Meads the manager from Placemakers came to TKHS to discuss the use of measurement in real life situations.
After some discussion in the classroom the students settled on the costing of building a 1.8m tall fence 20 meters along a garden boundary.
During our visit to the Placemakers, Mr Meads described different styles of building fences and how this would affect the overall costs.
The students also got to learn about the difference between treated timber for outside applications and building timber used within homes and other buildings.
Thank you once again to SSEP and Placemakers for allowing the students this valuable learning experience.

Our current Numeracy percentage pass rate is 87.9%. This is out of all the Level 1 students who currently attending Level 1 Mathematics course.
There will be further opportunities for students to come back during the study break to finish off their work.
Level 1 students from Mr Buckley and Mrs Sanchal’s class are preparing for an external examination and to help our students with revision we have decided to make Tuesday 17 November, as a revision day. If you are intending to be part of the Mathematics revision class, then please come to school, in school uniform and report to room A3.
