Yr 9 Camp 🧗‍♀️

Marama —

We had an epic camp at Finlay Park with the Year 9s, along with some Year 12s that gave their time to help out.

As soon as we hopped off the bus, we settled into our cabins before trying out the flying fox, water slide and confidence course. Next up was the massive slide into the river and the blob. After lunch, the instructors had set up a Top Town event for us where we got to try out a number of mind and team work activities.

We then had races in teams where we had to run to the pool for water, carry a person and the water on a sling for a distance before transferring the water to someone on a wheel barrow type construction. They then had to carry the water on top of a long pole and fill the bucket at the end. Needless to say, we should have worn togs and we weren't prepared to get so wet! Team One worked together incredibly well to win this challenge.

Later in the afternoon, we headed out in our three groups to try Paddle Boarding, Rock Climbing and Animal Survivor. After helping get an amazing dinner ready of wedges, sausages and salad with chocolate brownie, chocolate sauce and cream for dessert, we split into teams for more fun activities. These included an M&M Relay, Cookie Face, Math's Riddles, Balloon Races and a Stacking Cup Challenge. This was won by Team Three who had the competitive Mr. Williams on their side!

On Day Two we again split into our groups to try the activities that we didn't get to do on Day One.

After finding our feet and balance for Paddle Boarding, we headed out on the river where we were issued with a number of challenges. First up was jumping on our boards before doing push-ups and then burpees. Some even did handstands and then there was a bombing competition. We also had fun trying to push the teachers and instructors off their boards.

Animal Survival was held on an island where we were given a carnivore, herbivore or pests along with a hunter and a disease. The aim was to maintain your lives by not being tagged and to find the food stations on our sheets. Herbivores had a head start before the carnivores were let go and then the hunter and the disease were also sent out to try and catch their prey. Much fun was had!

Rock Climbing was held in a big shed where challenges included a rock wall, rope climb, crate stack, ladder climb and high ropes course. It was great to see all of the students getting out of their comfort zones and trying things that they found challenging.

A big thanks goes to Mr. Hunt and Mrs. Karaitiana for organising the camp, Mrs. Rapley, Mr. Williams, Mrs. Knight, Mrs. Shearer, Ms. Kearins, Ms. Bright, Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. Matthews for coming along and helping everyone to have the best time!

Thank you too to the awesome students who made this the best camp ever
