Casebrook COVID-19 Update - Tuesday 21st April...VERY IMPORTANT

Nick Leith —

Important information regarding Alert Level 3 and the reopening of schools next week.

Kia ora koutou,

We hope that the ‘Learning from Home’ programme has been a success for you so far. We know there will have been plenty of challenges to deal with but we have been getting some great feedback about the learning that is happening and thank you for all your support.

The following communication consists of very important information that needs to be read and understood by all parents/whānau. We hope it provides you with some idea about what the school’s processes and requirements are for reopening for a limited number of children to attend.

The message from the Government, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education yesterday was very clear:

If you are in a position to keep your child at home then you must keep them at home.

The announcement by the Government on 20 April states:

  • Alert Level 4 will change to Level 3 on midnight, Monday 27 April.
  • Schools will have a Teacher Only Day on Tuesday 28 April
  • Limited numbers of children will be able to attend from Wednesday 29 April.

All parents must complete the survey below to establish which students will be attending school and which students will continue learning from home. This needs to be done by 12pm on Thursday 23rd April.

You will find a link to the survey towards the end of this communication.

When we have an accurate figure of the number of students who will be attending school we will be sharing more details about how the school will operate logistically under Alert Level 3. Hopefully, any immediate questions are answered below.

Level 3 at Casebrook Intermediate School:

  • The purpose of schools reopening under Alert Level 3 is to help parents who need supervision of their children’s learning.
  • Teaching on-site will not be the ‘normal’ type of teaching programme due to social distancing and other requirements. The learning done at school will be exactly the same as our ‘Learning from Home’ curriculum. Students who attend will be working individually on these programmes.
  • Our school office will remain closed to the public and parents will not be allowed on-site unless a pre-organised requirement is established. All students will be required to access Casebrook via the main gate on Veitches road.
  • Children who are unwell, have compromised immunity, an underlying health condition (or if someone in their immediate whānau bubble does) must stay at home.
  • Learning spaces will be adapted for teaching; taking into account the need for 1m distancing at all times inside and 10 students per ‘bubble’ and breaks/play will require 2m outside distancing and no equipment use.

Once we have an established our Alert Level 3 roll (after survey completion):

The school will establish an Alert Level 3 school roll of students who will regularly attend the school site for learning. This means the school will supervise students who have parents working as an essential worker or are required to be at work by their employer and alternative supervision of their child’s home learning is not available to them.

If a child is on the Alert Level 3 school roll they will be expected to attend school regularly and if absent on a day will be checked as absent by parents/caregivers - as is normal school practice.

There is no provision for casual attendance to give caregivers/parents a ‘day or two off’.

Casebrook Intermediate Level 3 Parent Survey:

Every parent must complete the survey around their child/children’s attendance under Alert Level 3. Please complete the survey for each child in your family who attends Casebrook.

CLICK THIS LINK TO ACCESS SURVEY

Please do this as soon as possible before Thursday 23rd April 12pm so that we can confirm our Alert Level 3 school roll and plan for next week.

Lastly:

This week we are able to re-enter the school site and start making preparations for use. This will involve cleaning, security, maintenance, safety checks, equipment checks, staff briefings and planning for Level 3 protocols.

We really appreciate your support and understanding in this challenging time.

Kia kaha,
