Our new Deputy Principal, Miss Renée Kake
Shona Mckenzie - February 7, 2024
- How have you found your first week at Casebrook?
It's gone by in the blink of an eye and I have enjoyed every moment of it. I have loved meeting students and their whānau on their first few days for 2024. I've set myself a goal of learning every student's name. I am enjoying the chats I have with students when they come up and introduce themselves to me.
- How long have you been in education for?
I've been in education for quite some time, well over a decade. I have worked as a teacher, leader and an education consultant.
- Why do you love being a teacher?/In education?
I love making a difference for all students. In my previous job I worked with teachers and leaders. I love being here at Casebrook Intermediate as I have missed working with students to achieve their goals.
- What are you most looking forward to this year?
Everything is new to me and no two days are the same - there's so much to look forward to. Over the next week, I am heading off on camp with Rooms 7 & 8 and then I am going on the Year 7 Trek. I am looking forward to spending time with our students and our community on our EOTC trips.
- What is your favourite subject to teach and why?
Mathematics is my favourite subject to teach. It's changed a lot since I went to school. Whilst we still learn our times tables I love how students can apply this knowledge, discuss and productively struggle with a problem.
- What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
My days start with a gym session and then running or walking my dog, Nellie, before coming to school. I also enjoy Reformer Pilates. Playing card games such as Euchre and 500 always brings about fun family competition.
- What is your hidden talent?
My hidden talent is still hidden and I'm still trying to find it!
