Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington
In 2018, the school was gifted the Māori name, Te Kura o Huriawa (the school at the bend in the river) by mana whenua, and supported by Dianne Robinson. The Ōpāwaho (Heathcote River) is at our doorstep and provides authentic context for learning about kaitiakitanga and considering how people have interacted with the awa over time.
