2021 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools-ICAS

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

The Year 4, 5 and 6 children have the opportunity to enter the ICAS Competitions through the University of New South Wales. These tests provide a comparison against other students in New Zealand in the same year group as your child. This year the tests on offer include Science, Maths, Spelling, Digital Technologies, Writing and English. All of these competitions provide an opportunity for students to gain an appreciation of their achievement in an external exam. Achievement certificates are awarded to all students at a range of levels:

  1. High Distinction to the top 1% of students
  2. Distinction to the next 10% of students
  3. Credit to the next 25% of students
  4. Merit to the next 10% of students
  5. Participation to all other students

Your child can also prepare for ICAS using Practice Online. Practice Online tests are available for English, Mathematics and Science. Find out more about Practice Online at www.eaa.unsw.edu.au/practice-online.


New Parent Order and Payment System

Our school has signed up for the ICAS Assessments parent payment system (PPS) for Digital Technologies, Science, Writing, Spelling, English, and Maths. Through this system, parents can order and pay for ICAS directly online while tests will still be held at our school.

Students should be present on the days of the assessments. We have limited ability to catch up assessments if students are away sick.
