Enrolments

Andrea Swanson - January 31, 2022

We encourage families to enrol at least six months before their child will be starting school. An early enrolment allows us to plan for a smooth transition to school, and means that we will have your contact details to advise you of any up-coming school Open Mornings.

How to Enrol

If you reside within our school zone and wish to complete a digital enrolment form, please see the link below.

https://enrolments.linc-ed.com/apply/NZ/3557

If you wish to contact the school about enrolments, please email admin@thorrington.ac.nz

When enrolling, you will need a copy of your child’s birth certificate or passport and proof that you live within our enrolment zone.

Cohort Entry

From the beginning of the 2025 school year, we will introduce a Cohort Entry policy. This means new entrants start school in groups at the start of each term or at a mid-term date set by the Ministry of Education. Consultation for this change was completed in 2024. Our policy can be viewed here.

Once You’ve Enrolled

The New Entrant teacher will contact you approximately 4 weeks before your child’s cohort start date, to arrange a time for you and your child to come in for a New Entrant Whānau Connect meeting. This meeting is an opportunity for us to get to meet you and your child before they start school. You will find out who your child's teacher will be and which home base they will be in. We will ensure you have all the information regarding uniform and stationary.

Graduated Start to School

At Te Kura o Huriawa we offer a graduated start to school. These begin on their first day of school and are instead of a school visits programme.

  • Day 1 8:55 - 11:00

  • Day 2  8:55 - 12:30

  • Day 3  8:55 - 3:00

Starting School

Generally, children who start school before May 1st will be classified as Year 1 for the year and then be placed in Year 2 the following year, and children who start school on or after May 1st will be classified as Year 0 and then be placed in Year 1 the following year.

School entry assessment is undertaken on all children as they start school. After 6 weeks at school, you will be invited to meet with your child's teacher to discuss how they have settled into school and any entry assessments that have been completed.
