Kathryn Cornfoot, Year 3 and 4 Teacher in Paenga 14

Kia ora!

I was born in Auckland, but have lived in Christchurch for nearly 20 years. I have worked at Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington for 7 years, first as learning support in new entrants, then in the Tuakana and Whanaketanga teams.

My husband, Matt, works for Kathmandu. We have 3 children - Kate (Year 13), Julia (Year 11) and Josh (Year 7). They keep us busy outside of school with their many choir, band and sporting commitments! 

We love to spend time at the beach - walking, flying kites and boogie boarding. Some of my favourite things to do are baking and watching movies, but reading is my greatest love, and I am happiest when I have a brand new book in my hand (and a fresh cup of coffee too!).

Kristy Foster, Year 1 Teacher in Hāwai 5

I was born on the Sunshine Coast in Australia and moved to Christchurch in 2022. I moved to New Zealand to live with my partner Jake, who was born in Christchurch.

I am in my 3rd year of working at Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the community and creating a classroom environment where students feel understood, safe and happy. 

In my spare time I enjoy going to the beach, having coffee with my partner, friends and family, and travelling around the world. My favourite place to go on holiday is an island off of Brisbane named Stradbroke Island, my family and I used to go there every year together.
