17 students to represent Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington at Primary Sports Canterbury Athletics Championships

Following on from another hugely successful School Athletics Day held at Nga Puna Wai 49 Tuakana students qualified to represent Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington at the South Zone Athletics Championships at Hansens Park.

Unfortunately ahead of the event on Monday 14th November we lost 4 of these students from the team, but 45 students still went out to do the school proud with their efforts.

Every single person that pulled on the Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington shirt put in a huge effort. For some students this was their 1st chance to represent the school in  zone event, for others, this was a chance to showcase their abilities.

From this event 17 students will now go on to represent Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington at the Primary Sports Canterbury Athletics Championships at Nga Puna Wai on Wednesday 30th November. This is the largest number of students we have taken to this event in the 4 years I have been involved at school!

Below are the results of top 4 placings in the South Zone event.

Year 5 Girls:

• Mercedes Williams - 1st equal High Jump; 2nd 80m
• Addison Aspros - 3rd Shot Put
• Genevieve Maze - 3rd 1000m
• Abigail Jamieson-Green - 1st 60m
• Harper Muir - 4th 60m
• Niamh O'Reegan - 4th 80m
• 4x50m Relay - Abigail Jamieson-Green, Mercedes Williams, Niamh O'Reegan, Georgia Kirk - 1st

Year 5 Boys:

• Jaden Stedman - 4th Long Jump
• Josh Smith - 1st Discus; 1st 1000m
• Louie Newman - 2nd 1000m; 4th 80m
• Tiago Morreau - 4th 60m
• Hugo Whitley - 3rd 80m
• 4x50m Relay - Tiago Morreau, Josh Smith, Louie Newman, Hugo Whitley - 2nd

• Maddie Ericson - 1st High Jump

Year 6 Boys:

• London Puohotaua - 2nd High Jump; 1st 80m
• Sajjad Alizada - 3rd Discus; 2nd Shot Put
• Charlie Pulley - 3rd Shot Put
• Arlo Pullin - 3rd 1000m; 2nd 60m
• 4x50m Relay - London Puohotaua, Arlo Pullin, Josh Seaman, Benji Mclean - 1st
