South Zones Swimming Sports

On Tuesday 13th March a strong team of 16 swimmers represented Thorrington Primary at the South Zone competition at Jellie Park. As a school we run the event so it’s always a bit nerve wracking for me as I try to coordinate 8 schools and lots of spectators. Chris Panther was amazing as the announcer for the event and I’m not sure if he had a voice left by the end of it. Our team swam really well, they cheered each other on and every time I caught up with the them they were very happy with their efforts. The following children have qualified for Primary Canterbury swimming sports which will be held at Selwyn aquatic centre on the 5th April.

  • Sebastian Julian, Year 6, 1st 50m Freestyle, 2nd 50m Backstroke
  • William Lindores, Year 6, 1st 50m Breaststroke
  • Jack Rollinson, Year 6, 1st 50m Butterfly
  • Ashlee Baars, Year 5, 1st 50m Freestyle, 2nd 50m Backstroke
  • Evie Roy, Year 5, 1st 50m Breaststroke
  • Louis Whitley, Year 5 1st 50m Breaststroke

Thank you to Jacqui Baars and Jo Lindores for sorting all the results and to Fiona Johnson for running the team and making sure everyone got to their event on time.

The full school cross country has a date change due to a timetable clash. The new date is Thursday 12th April, postponement date, Friday 13th April. It will be held at school. More details to follow soon, Lets hope the weather is kinder to us this year!
