Newsletter Week 5, Term 1
Ukulele lessons held today in our new hall
Today we held a non-uniform day in support of the flood relief effort for the North Island. Thank you TLC and Mrs Booth for organising this fundraiser that has raised $720.20.
Our new hall
We are delighted to have the use of our new hall and our Kapa haka lessons were the first to use it yesterday. It is a beautiful space with a sports floor and will provide the school with a place to come together for a variety of purposes. We invite families to pop in before or after school this week to view the space. Our whole school assembly will be held in the hall on Friday.
Matakitiki means a spring (of water). As much as waterways are replenished by a spring, the health, fitness, ideas and celebrations that spring from the students and whānau will be reflected in this multi-purpose space. This name is given for the hall as it is the largest part of the school and will bring people together in large gatherings and for a variety of purposes.
Travel Plan
Following a survey of the community late last year, we are working with the City Council to review a travel plan. A working group is being established to carry out the review and we are seeking interest from any parents who would like to join this group. Board and staff representation will support the group. Please email me to express your interest at principal@thorrington.ac.nz.
Walk or Wheel to School Week
Next week is Walk or Wheel to School Week and families are encouraged to walk, cycle, scoot or skate to school. There are prizes to be won and it is a great way to support the school as we launch our Enviroschools journey. The flyer below has some interesting facts about the impact of car use.
