Climate Change Wānanga and recycling
Porirua Citizen's Climate Change Wānanga
Our Enviro team has been hard at work behind the scenes, preparing for the Porirua Citizen's Climate Change Wānanga. This is an initiative focusing on the Porirua local area, and our district's response to climate change issues.
Papakōwhai School sent a team of 6 keen students (Gabby Hey, Michelle Fountain, Carly Sanders, Lucas Herd, Hana Lewis and Emily Scherzer) to the schools wānanga on the 14th of February. They designed a t-shirt, wrote poetry and a song as part of the day to capture their message in multiple ways. Children were also given the opportunity to present their views at the first of the adults' assemblies being held on Saturdays over February and March.
Last year, our Year 8 Enviro team prepared a banner to display at the meeting, which Carly Sanders presented.
Emily Scherzer presented a copy of an environmental awareness board game that she has designed herself, hoping that more schools will get a chance to use this board game as part of their learning.
