Latest update from PCC on the Papakōwhai shared path
Upcoming road closures / traffic management
There will be more road closures and traffic management measures in place over the next few months as we work towards completion in October - timeframes are indicative and subject to change:
Brora Cres intersection – Monday 27 May to the end of July Proposed closure 24/7 for the first week then it will be open in the uphill direction only until completion. This is the same approach that was used during Romesdale Rd intersection works, Detours will be in place for this closure and Brora Cres can be accessed through Romesdale Rd intersection and Kiriwai Rd. Residents' access will be maintained at all times.
Paremata School raised pedestrian crossing – Late May to end of June (hours of work 9am to 2.30pm – one lane open at all times). This school safety initiative will be undertaken by our shared path contractors to ensure coordination of work in the area. The raised crossing will replace the existing zebra crossing outside Paremata School, slowing traffic and making it easier and safer for all road users (especially more vulnerable road users wishing to cross the road). Expect delays during work hours and use SH 59 as an alternative route where possible. Please note: Wellington Water is also working to increase the capacity of the Station Rd Pump Station during this same time period – we are coordinating our traffic management with theirs. Further information on this work is available at www.wellingtonwater.co.nz .
Aotea Lagoon raised pedestrian crossing – June (hours of work will be 9am to 3pm within the carriageway. Work outside of these hours is limited to the berm).
Tweed Rd intersection – Start of June to the end of July (hours of work 9am to 2.30pm during the school term and 9am to 3pm during the school holidays). There will be one lane closed with stop/go traffic management in place. Residents’ access will be maintained at all times. Please use Romesdale Rd or Brora Cres where possible.
Streetlights
Just a reminder, the streetlights are out in some sections as we relocate and reconnect light poles along Papakōwhai Rd. We are expecting most of these to be back on within the next two weeks before the lights between Brora Cres and the southern pedestrian rail over bridge are disconnected and then reconnected.
