Susan Jackson —

Kia ora koutou e ngā mātua, e ngā whānau, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Konichiwa!

Thank you for your support during this term! As a result, we have had a great term with many varied and exciting opportunities for our learners and teachers. We appreciate the time you give to support your children, partnering us to give them the best education we can.

As always, term three is a long term, with schools coping with illnesses and challenging weather! It was great to welcome in the first day of Spring, especially seeing more and more children learning in the newly developed outdoor learning spaces.

As I wander around, it is great seeing the varied play opportunities our children have during play breaks. Football is very popular, with the BMX and scooter track attracting more risk takers and creativity!

We have our termly Mihi Whakatau on Friday 18 October at 10.30am where we welcome our new learners and Whānau to our school. We extend a warm welcome to our community to attend this event. This is held in our Whārenui followed by an opportunity to mix with staff over morning tea and meet new families.

Student Led Conferences

Thank you for supporting your child at the recent student led conferences. We are currently seeking feedback from staff, learners and whānau on the effectiveness of these recent conferences to help us finalise the reporting on progress and achievement to our community for 2020. We will not be having student led conferences in Term 4, although we will be reviewing goals and reporting on curriculum levels. Further details on how this is going to look will be sent home early next term.

Transitions

This is an area we have identified as wanting to build on our current practices to try and make these important and less stressful for our tamariki. Currently Sonja Beaumont and Jeanette Neal are researching ‘transitions to school’ - Early Childhood to school, leaving school especially year 6 to year 7 and year 8 to year 9, and within school. They have visited other schools, and are currently seeking feedback from staff, learners and our community to inform their review. They are working with the Across School Teacher in the Community of Learning | Kāhui Ako who has this area of responsibility.
