Y5 - 8 Swimming

Like 2020, the day dawned cool with cloud cover and drizzle. Fortunately the wind stayed away for a majority of the day. When the sun did try to shine our wonderful helpers were able to dry out a little and the recording sheets held together a little better.

With fifty four heats in the competitive section and as many in them in non-competitive, the team did well to finish with a few fun races and be out of the pool before the end of the day.

The morning event saw some close racing, and many children challenging themselves by trying a new stroke or simply taking part in the event for the first time. Congratulations to all who took part. Many swimmers competed in more than three events on the day.

Can I say a big thank you to staff and parent helpers for your assistance on the day. We welcome your help at any future events.

Records broken as follows:

Senior (yr7/8) Open Butterfly - Max - 43.85 - (47.26 in 2013)

Senior (yr7/8) Backstroke - Max - 41.17 - (43.28 in 2018)

Senior (yr7/8) Breaststroke - Max - 49.18 - (49.37 in 2013)

Y5 - 8 Triathlon

It was wonderful to be able to reinstate the triathlon again this year, after a 6 year hiatus. My aim as Sport Coordinator is to provide physical activity and sports opportunities for everyone to participate to the best of their ability. My motto is to be better tomorrow than what you are today.

We had most of the year 5 - 8 ākonga participating in the event in some way. Some joined with buddies and teamed up to swim, bike or run. Others took to the competitive individual section to try and qualify for the Canterbury event in two weeks time.

I would like to thanks the many parents helpers who stood out on the course to ensure our ākonga were safe and FoWMS for providing refreshments.
