What a fantastic start to 2025. It is wonderful to see everyone back, settling into their communities and diving into their learning. We have been very impressed with how well our ākonga have settled back into routines, especially those who have moved into new teams and spaces.
Thank you to our amazing staff who have worked hard to set up for the 2025 school year. Between January 20th and 26th, our learning teams were busy planning and setting up classrooms, ensuring everything was ready for our ākonga to return. On January 26 and 27, we came together to work on the implementation of the refreshed mathematics curriculum this year.
Not only is the implementation of Mathematics a key focus. We also need to implement the refreshed English curriculum, along with national initiatives, such as improving attendance. There will be more information on attendance coming out shortly.
Our school continues to prioritise high achievement, with our 2024 progress and achievement data reflecting our strong performance. The student achievement bubble gives you more information. We remain committed to continuous improvement. We’re focused on ensuring consistency in teaching practice across the school and providing the best possible learning experiences for all our ākonga.
Congratulations to all the Year 5 to 8 triathletes yesterday! Fantastic effort and great results.
Tonight is our Meet the Teacher sessions and school picnic. We would love it if you could come along and hear about what is happening in your child’s community and then join us for some kai. You might like to use some of the sports equipment available.
Tomorrow at 10am is the Mihi Whākatau. You are more than welcome to come and be part of an event that welcomes our new families and staff to our school.
At the end of last year, we reviewed our relationship procedures and observed behavior across the school. Based on our findings, the leadership team identified key areas for improvement and focus. To make meaningful progress, we need your help and support. Your awareness of these focus areas and reinforcement at home would be greatly appreciated.
What we ask of our students at West Melton School in Term 1
That they
Wear their uniform with pride
Wear their hats anytime they are outside and are SunSmart
Wear socks with no labels or the labels are not visible
Use their manners every time
Please and thank you
Excuse me, and pardon me
No swearing, racism or sexism
Keep the school environment healthy, clean and tidy
If they see rubbish, pick it up
Walk around, not through gardens
Use Digital Tools in smart ways
Use iPads for creativity and not consumption
We look forward to working alongside you to get the best for your children in 2025.
