Assessment and Reporting Update - March

Tracey Riley —

The purpose of this section is to update you on our progress and plans around assessment and reporting “post National Standards”.

Thank you to those parents who completed the survey on the Learning Conferences.  Based on responses it appears that people are favourable to our future direction in this area. We are in the process of finalising Learning Conferences for the remainder of the year. After the presentation to the Board on 8 April we are hoping to confirm the moving of Learning Conferences from what has been traditionally held on the last day of Term 2 to the end of week 5 (Friday 6 June).

On Wednesday 6 April the staff are having further training around eTAP (our student management system) and progression based reporting across curriculum levels. This method of reporting is new and has been adopted by many other schools across Canterbury and New Zealand. Training will also involve the potential development and deployment of the Parent Portal.

Changes that we make will be phased in throughout the year. There will be parent information and education opportunities. We will endeavour to consult and get feedback at each stage. Look for a detailed update early in Term 2.

Parents of children in Year 1 - 3:

Under National Standards we reported to you in writing after your child had been at school for 20 weeks, 1 year, 60 weeks, 2 years, 100 weeks, 3 years. With the changes to our assessment and reporting processes outlined above, these reports will no longer be sent. If you have any questions regarding this change then please contact the Leader of Learning of your child’s community.
