Kia ora e te whānau

Hard to believe we are at the end of the term and there is only six months until Christmas. What is fantastic is that we are now heading to increasingly longer days of daylight.

One of the many positives about being at West Melton School is the wide range of opportunities our ākonga get to participate in. Our Year 5 to 8 learners competed in house against each other in the EPro8 competition, resulting in teams going through to the appropriate finals. Well done to Honor and Flynn who competed yesterday at Canterbury Boccia. Looked like lots of fun. Congratulations to the 16 runners who participated at the Canterbury Cross Country. Well done on all the results, particularly to the following: Tessa S who came 4th out 124 Y6 Girls, Amelia M 19 out 176 Y7 Girls, Eva R 20 out of 188 Y8 Girls and Finn S 17 out 162. Well done to the teams participating in the Selwyn Central Zone Football and Hockey Tournament. Congratulations to the Year 7 and 8 Football Team who came 1st and have qualified for the Canterbury Winter Tournament, and the Year 5 and 6 Football team came third. Nine ākonga participated in the Canterbury Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition with Lily A coming first in the Novice Year 5 Springers section.

The events calendar will be out early next term. In the meantime events are entered on our school calendar as they arise. Note there is a Kāhui Ako Staff Only Day scheduled on Friday 11 August. The school will be closed on this day so we ask that you find alternative arrangements for the care of your children.

At this time of the year it can be quite difficult to find time to garden.  If you feel inclined and would like the children to burn off some energy....come down to school, bring a trowel and pick a garden to weed.  I am sure Sam the caretaker would love you for it!

Just a reminder about safety and usage of the carparks. Please do not walk through the staff car park (BP end of Westview Cres) to enter the school. The disabled car parks in both areas are to be kept clear at all times unless you have a disability parking permit or dispensation from the school.

I hope you have a wonderful two week break. Stay safe.
