Kia ora Whānau

I hope you are having a great week and are looking forward to the next two weeks of no uniforms, lunch boxes and for some no alarms.  What a great way to spend this week - celebrating books and reading. We are excited to have our book character day tomorrow with a parade. Fingers crossed for good weather so we can all be together on the front court. If it is fine we hope whānau will come along at 10am to celebrate with us.

The past fortnight has been another busy time for our West Melton learners. We had our Year 7 and 8 ākonga competing at the Koru Games that were held across both Rolleston and Lincoln sports facilities. There were a plethora of sports being played, from Lawn Bowls to Table Tennis. It was fantastic to see so many children from across the South Island involved in this tournament and I know our athletes had a great time. Congratulations to Lily and Eva from WM Intermediate for winning the Zonta Environment Award at the recent Years 7 - 13 Canterbury Science Fair. A big congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 netball team. Third in Canterbury! Fantastic effort all round.

2023 Class Placement

It is hard to believe, but we have started looking at the organisation for 2023. Early next term, teachers will begin the process of assigning ākonga to pods and communities. Our teachers spend a lot of time organising pod/community groups, taking into consideration several factors which includes learners who work successfully together and friendships. If parents/caregivers wish to advise us of anything that needs to be considered, this will need to email me: principal@westmelton.school.nz by Friday 28 October. Requests for specific teachers will not be considered.

School Hats

Just a reminder that next term our learners are required to wear a school hat as part of the school uniform. These are available to purchase in the school office. The school office will be open during on Thursday 13 October from 10am to 2pm, the second week of the holidays, if you want to pop in then.

I would like to wish whānau a safe and relaxing holiday period. I hope you all manage some time together with family and friends. All the best to our ākonga who are competing in various sports teams throughout the country. The term finishes tomorrow (Friday) and we look forward to seeing all ākonga back on Monday 17 October.
