Kia ora e te whānau

Thank you for attending the Ako Conferences last week. At West Melton School we firmly believe that education is a collaborative effort between home and school. Next Friday curriculum posts on Hero will be open for you to view. Please don’t hesitate to contact your child/ren’s pod teacher if you have any questions.

It was great that the teachers have settled their primary collective agreement last week. Thank you for your understanding and patience with the recent school closure and earlier strike day.

Continuing with the ‘great news’ theme. We had a lovely visit today from Mrs Dunlop (Allchurch) and her recent addition to the family. As much as we tried hard to wake her, Harper slept through the whole visit. Congratulations Nicole and Brad. Congratulations also to Clarissa and Thomas Hurihanganui on the recent birth of Poppy.

Well done to all the ākonga who have competed in different sporting events recently. 39 children competed at the Selwyn Central Zone Cross Country with commendable effort and results: Tessa S 1st and Skyla 3rd in Year 6 Girls; Johnny 3rd Year 6 Boys; Amelia 2nd Year 7 Girls; Hayden 3rd Year 7 Boys; Eva 2nd Year 8 Girls, and Finn 2nd Year 8 Boys. All the very best to our 16 ākonga who have qualified for the Canterbury Cross-country next week.

Yesterday 11 ākonga participated in the Canterbury Artistic Gymnastics and gained the following results. Pippa K 3rd on the vault and 7th overall in the Step 3 competition; Lily I 1st in Silver on Beam; Isla W 3rd in Silver on Floor and Emily 3rd in Bronze on Beam. Brilliant effort!

As we near the end of the term we are noticing ākonga not wearing the correct school uniform. As much as it seems trivial this can have an impact. We kindly request your support in ensuring that your child arrives at school wearing the correct uniform. This includes either plain navy, white or black socks (no logos) and plain navy pants that also don’t have any logos. Due to the colder weather, ākonga can wear plain navy polyprop underneath their t-shirts. Can we also ask that headbands and hair ties are plain and not decorative. Thank you for your support.

Earlier in the week we thanked Bruce Russell for his services to our school transport. Bruce’s kind and caring manner and flexibility in accommodating last minute changes has been appreciated. I am sure he will continue to be involved in our school in other ways.

Not long to go now until the end of the term. Have a great rest of the week.

Ngā mihi nui
