Dance Curriculum starting in Term 2

Dance Curriculum —

Starting in Term 2, from May 2, “Dance Curriculum” (previously known as Dances For School company and an experience our ākonga thoroughly enjoyed in 2018), will be at West Melton School. The company was developed by professional dancers, Dean Langham and Ezra Bush, both from Nelson. This is an in-school dance programme that teaches students more than just moves. This company travels around Australia and New Zealand teaching children a range of dance genres and skills. Students will be participating in daily lessons at school over two weeks and showcase their newfound skills through performances for family and friends towards the end of the term.

“Dance Curriculum’s” mission is to provide students with male role models who are inspired and passionate about dance, and who can demonstrate to children a different set of pathways in life, as well as get them engaged in a physical, mental and social activity. The value added is the relationships they build over the two weeks of learning; with other teachers, their peers and their coaches. The children understand that dance is a cooperative effort with lots of participation and contribution involved, and this is a key ingredient for learning.

Here is a link from the “Dance Curriculum” website if you would like to hear more.

The cost to bring this company to our school is $28 per student and payments made through the finance icon on the Hero App.
