Matariki 2022

WMS Cultural Team —

Kia ora whānau,

In week 8 of this term (20-24 June), we are celebrating Matariki by having a week of activities and shared events. Our aim is to come together as a Kura to learn about Matariki and form tuakana-teina (older-younger) relationships between students in their whānau groups. Some events we have planned include flax weaving, shared kai, and a haka off.

For our flax weaving, we are needing some strands of harakeke to be brought in by the community so that we have enough for senior students to practice with. We will have a location to drop these at school in week 7 and will send out information on the tikanga (customs) when cutting the harakeke.

More information will be sent out closer to the time so keep an eye on Hero and Facebook.
