Celebration of successes

Susan Jackson —

As part of our New Pedagogies for Deep Learning journey, our school is required to submit pieces of work for national moderation. This year we submitted a Deep Learning Task that Kōwhai underwent at the end of last year around smashing gender stereotypes.

The task was self-assessed using the Deep Learning Rubrics and a slideshow with our evidence was sent away for other teachers around New Zealand to assess. Some of our teachers are also involved in assessing other submissions from around New Zealand.

Our submission received fantastic feedback and as a result was chosen to represent New Zealand to be moderated at a global level. This means educators from around the world will be looking at the work happening at West Melton School.

Some of our teachers have also been chosen to moderate Deep Learning Tasks from all over the world. Yay for West Melton!!

Celebration of Learning

We have just finished our first Celebration of learning for term four with many achievements and awards being recognised - sports trophies, West Melton’s Got Talent, and of course our bus ticket draw for all learners who received a bus ticket over the last three weeks promoting our I.C.E. DRIVER values.

Huge congratulations to our placegetters and trophy winners. What a great opportunity to come together as a school and share our learning and successes!

‘Go West Melton Jump Jam troupe’... are performing in the regionals tomorrow. Have lots of fun and we wish you all the best. We know you are already winners... you are awesome!

Our school choir are performing on Thursday evening, at the Town Hall for the first time since 2011. It was lovely to hear a couple of their songs they will be performing. I look forward to being a member of the audience when the mass choirs perform!
