Kia ora koutou e nga matua, e nga whānau, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Konichiwa!

What a fantastic week for weather - that is if you like the heat! It certainly didn’t stop the Year 1 - 4 duathlon participants whip around the field on their bikes and scooters yesterday before heading off on the run. The level of excitement was high and many of our younger ākonga were still talking about it as they headed home. I would like to acknowledge our Toetoe helpers (Years 5 and 6) who worked tirelessly throughout the event and were such great support. One of the things that is special about our school.

Road Crossing

I would like to take this opportunity to remind whānau about the importance of using the patrolled crossing at Weedons Ross Road. I can appreciate that it is quite possibly easier and quicker to nip across the road at a different place, however this is not setting a good example for our learners. Particularly for those walking to school independently, who watch and learn, and then believe they can do the same.

Strategic Planning

Currently the Board and staff are working on the 2019-2021 Strategic Plan. This document will be finalised before the 1 March, confirmed at the first Board meeting that night, and then forwarded to the Ministry of Education. This sets the schools priorities for the year in an annual plan and DRIVES the school over the next three years. This document can be accessed on the school website www.westmelton.school.nz after the 19 March.

Swimming Pool

Many thanks to the wonderful community members who have kept our school pool safe and clean over the school holidays. We really appreciate the efforts from everyone involved. Special thanks to John Blondell (caretaker) for all the work he does behind the scenes preparing and maintaining our school pool!

Goodluck to all our ākonga, staff and parents involved in events coming up. It is a busy couple of weeks with sports, camps, trips, casual clothes day and the science roadshow. If you are not sure what is happening then go to the school calendar
