Parent Wellbeing

We’re excited to share an online Parent Wellbeing session, specifically tailored to support parents in managing stress and emotional regulation as we enter this busy time of year and prepare for the school holidays. These practical, supportive sessions were run weekly over winter at the Rolleston Community Centre, and parents found them so supportive in connecting with others, feeling less alone in the challenges they face in their parenting and otherwise, as well as learning simple, effective strategies. Now, we’re super excited to offer this opportunity online to reach some of our more rural parents who expressed that the commute was a barrier to attending or for parents who are in other areas of the region - the magic of online, hey?

Session Details:

Session Overview: The hour-long session is designed with flexibility and ease in mind. The first half-hour will focus on understanding stress, its impact on us and our children, and techniques for managing stress in real-time, including focusing on our strengths and what we can control, as opposed to what we can't. The second half-hour will be dedicated to simple, effective mindfulness practices and yoga movements that can be seamlessly integrated into daily routines.

The session will be led by two super-experienced facilitators:

  • Anna Mowat – With a background in psychology and extensive experience in wellbeing, Anna has worked on several national wellbeing projects, including with the New Zealand Institute of Wellbeing and ResilienceAll Right? campaign, Sparklers, and as an advisor for TVNZ on child wellbeing. Anna is also a mum and director of Real Parents.

  • Letesha Hallett – A trained yoga instructor and director of Yoga Warriors, Letesha brings a uniquely Aotearoa approach to yoga and mindfulness through a kaupapa Māori lens. With experience across schools, organisations, and national wellbeing projects such as Sparklers and Tākai, she offers a grounded approach to managing stress. Letesha also supports Canterbury's teen parent education units and is a mum herself.
