Kia ora e te whānau

It’s that time of year! The lambs are arriving, we are starting to see the days getting longer and Spring is just around the corner. My favourite time of the year. It is great that the weather has been fine enough to continue with planned events.

A big thank you to the Friends of West Melton who organised the walkathon. It was a lovely day and the children were excited about walking as many laps as they could. I believe this was quite costly for some parents new to the game of sponsorship. It was fantastic to see so many supporters around the course cheering children and adults along.

Following on from the walkathon was the Radio Lollipop fundraiser organised by the Student Exec. They organised it in conjunction with Cats Pyjamas. There was a flow of red around the school and $554.10 was raised. An awesome effort.

Last Friday we had our Mihi Whakatau. This is a special event that is held once a term to welcome all our new tamariki and whānau. The Kapa haka group welcomed new children and families with a haka, various people spoke, supported afterwards by a waiata (song) and we shared kai (food) afterwards. Kim Wells does an amazing job of organising the planning for this event and we always get positive feedback about how special it is to be part of. Keep an eye out for the date of the next Mihi Whakatau and come and be part of it.

Just a reminder that school will be closed on Friday 11 August allowing staff to attend a professional development opportunity with the schools in our area. We ask that you find alternative arrangements for the care of your children on this day.

Ngā mihi nui
