EnviroSchools Update
On Monday 23 May, Finn, Yvette and Ms McKendry presented the West Melton School Enviro vision map and vision statement to the Board of Trustees.
The vision map is a living document that helps us to think about what is environmentally improtant in our school and how we want it to grow and change to support the environment.
Our vision statement says:
At Te Kura o Papatahora West Melton School
we aim to make everyone feel happy and welcome
we are caring and learn how to care for the environment
we create sustainable places to enjoy, making sure our school is litter-free
Some of the things we want to see in our school are:
A quiet outdoor seating area by the library
The space behind Kōwhai developed for use at play breaks
A natural, wild area in the school
Environmentally friendly pest and weed control
Rain collection for watering our gardens
More edible gardens - fruit trees, herbs, vegetables …
Spaces to create, eg: music, art, building
Areas specifically to attract insects and birds
