Key Characteristics of Innovative, Connected and Empowered
At the heart of the Relationship Support Programme are the beliefs that:
All learners have the capacity and responsibility to behave in a way that enhances learning and relationships
Teachers can help learners to make positive changes by teaching the skills and responses that they need to help them
When relationships have been broken, they need to be mended - parents and teachers have a responsibility to ensure that learners are able to put things right and restore broken relationships
Behaviour routines and procedures, and the reasons for these, need to be understood and applied fairly and consistently
Well-being, learning and behaviour are interlinked
As educators, we have a key role in promoting positive behaviour and learning environments, by communicating encouraging, modelling and supporting learners to do the right thing
Effective partnerships between school and home are imperative
The main purpose and focus of the Positive Relationship Management Programme, is to teach and reinforce positive behaviours throughout the school (refer to the last newsletter for further details). Expectations for behaviour are outlined in the routines. These are explicitly taught to the learners and reviewed regularly.
For example: Our Wheels and Arrival and Departure Routines
Inappropriate behaviour is dealt with fairly and consistently with a focus on learners learning from and taking responsibility for their own mistakes and behaviours. Restorative Practices is the preferred method for managing behavioural difficulties. However we follow our Relationship Plan.
Our bus ticket and token system is one way we reinforce positive behaviour.
Bus Tickets
Bus Tickets are given to learners who demonstrate exemplary behaviour, learning and relationships in the classroom or playground.
When bus tickets are issued the top section of the ticket goes home.
Every 5 bus tickets will generate a certificate to be sent by post.
At each Celebration of Learning five names will be drawn out of the barrel to select a prize from the bus box
An additional five tickets will be drawn to have picnic with the Principal
Next term we will look at further positive strategies, bullying and our peer mediator programme.
