Kia ora e te whānau

Last week I enjoyed the first Pizza with the Principal for the year. It was fantastic to hear about how the children demonstrated our focus value of the term - respect. They were recognised for wonderful manners, picking up rubbish that wasn’t theirs, even for pointing out to a peer  that they needed to use better manners.  It is one of my favourite parts of the job.

How lovely it was to welcome our new ākonga, teachers  and whānau to our community at our Mihi Whakatau. It is always a moving event that is special to everyone.

Another favourite is working with the Student Exec Team. This is a group of motivated and inspiring ākonga from Years 6 to 8 who make a difference to our school and wider community. Yesterday we had our first meeting of the year and organised 'Wheels or Walk Week' for next week! This is an initiative supported by the surrounding district councils in Canterbury and is encouraging children and families to become more active, whilst considering the environment. Emily our new chairperson, has shared further information in the Student Exec bubble.

Thank you to all the ākonga for wearing their yellow safety vest to school. With an increasing amount of traffic on our roads it is important that our children  are seen. As uncool as it may be, it could save a life!

Well done to all our  Year 5 to 8 ākonga who participated in the school swimming sports, and the  triathletes who competed in the Canterbury triathlon earlier in the week.  Your hard work, determination, and enthusiasm were truly inspiring. Whether in the pool or on the course, you gave it your all, and we are incredibly proud of your achievements. Ka pai!

The fete is just around the corner. I know a lot of planning and organisation is going on behind the scenes from an amazing group of volunteers to make this successful. If you have an hour or two on Sunday 30 March it would be fantastic if you could help in some way. I know it would be greatly appreciated. Please let the office know and they will connect you with the right people.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Ngā mihi nui
