Kia ora koutou e ngā matua, e ngā whānau, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Konichiwa!
Well! What a wet start to the term. It has been great to see the sun again this week, which has allowed us to open the field for the ākonga to run some energy off.
Selwyn Sports Trust
I have just watched our Toetoe community pull away in the buses heading to the Selwyn Winter Festival, which the Selwyn Sports Trust runs. The Festival is an opportunity for Toetoe and Tōtara to participate in various sports. The Festival will be non-competitive, with four weeks of skill development and modified games in sports that may not usually be available to your ākonga and will encourage teamwork and fair play. There are 20 different sports allocated. Some sports offered are; Waterpolo, AFL, Crazy Golf, Dodgeball, Ki-o-rahi, Badminton, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Indoor Bowls, Marching and Ultimate Frisbee.
We are lucky to have a Selwyn Sports Activator working with ākonga from Year 0 - 8, developing leadership every Monday this term. Kate Llyod is our Activator, and when she is not working for the Selwyn Sports Trust, she is giving it her all as a Tactix netball team member. Kate is working with our established leaders, such as the Ambassadors, Student executives, Whānau Leaders and Whakatipu Kaihautū Activity Leaders, as well as our up-and-coming leaders in Kōwhai, Tī Kōuka, Mānuka, Toetoe and a Year 7 & 8 Girls Leadership group.
We look forward to seeing our new leaders develop their leadership skills and service to our community.
Events
We are proud of our two EPro8 teams who participated in an inter-school competition last week at Clearview School. Leo, Blake, Lucas, Yamato and Zoe made up the Toetoe EPro8 team and worked hard to show their DRIVER values. We look forward to seeing this team progress next year. Our Tōtara EPro8 team of Aiden, Tyler, Alex, and Jack won the Rolleston Inter-School event last week and now move on to the semi-finals. (The EPro8 Challenge is an Inter-School Science and Engineering Competition). Thank you to Darren Smalley for organising the within-school event and supporting the teams. Another big thank you to Andrew Diehl and Finn Smalley, who helped the teams judge the in-school event. Thank you as well to the parents who transported and supervised the Clearview event.
Now that the field and sky have dried up, we are trialling our Rugby and Netball teams for the upcoming Winter Tournament. There is a lot of sports this term, with the Intermediate Koru Games occurring later. However, we also have several other events such as the Ski or Ice Skating Trip, Kōwhai Sanctuary Plant Out Day, and the Intermediate are busy preparing for the Cantamaths event, Lincoln Primary Rotary Quiz and Ellesmere Speech Competition.
Enjoy the almost spring-like condition and have a great week.
Tracey Riley has joined the COVID crew and is looking forward to coming back to school.
