Don’t be a Hasbean Mind Your Manners

Mark MaddrenAugust 3, 2022

Our Positive Behaviour for Learning focus for the start of Term 3 is a focus on manners.

The use of manners is one of the expected behaviours at West Melton School. These link to our DRIVER VALUES, particularly with RESPECT, INTEGRITY and EMPATHY.

RESPECT - Using our manners and kind words

  • Use please and thank you when asking for things

  • Say thank you when someone asks how you are

  • Use excuse me

EMPATHY - Careful with the feelings and needs of others

  • Use a positive tone of voice when speaking to others

  • Use kind words when solving problems

INTEGRITY - With us all doing the right thing

  • Letting others go before you (not rushing to be first)

  • Holding the door for people after you

In the playground, we will be giving out our beans to reinforce the use of manners. One example is below.

“Hello, how is your morning / day / game / playtime / etc going?”

Desired Response - “Very well, thank you” or other version utilising manners.

We will also have our Bean SuperHeroes and Bean Fairies at the front gate, giving out beans to individuals who say thank you as they cross the road in the mornings. They may also turn up during playtimes, constantly looking for ākonga using their manners.
