Hats and Sunscreen at School

Lincoln Primary —

A large number of students are forgetting their hats every day. Please make sure your children have their hat!

Lincoln Primary School is proud to be a SunSmart School.  In New Zealand we have one of the highest rates of melanoma skin cancer in the world, but we can enjoy the sunshine and reduce our risk of harm by being sun smart. Sun smart behaviour is particularly important for young people, as excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) in childhood and adolescence can increase the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers later in life, and cause eye damage.

Hats are compulsory in Terms 1 and 4, and encouraged during any other sunny days.  Students can choose from bucket or slouch hats.  Students without a hat will have to play in the shade during break times.

Hats are available for purchase through Argyle Uniforms and are also available through the PTA Uniform shop, open Fridays during term time from 2.45pm-3.15pm.

We also provide sunscreen for students to apply during the day, and ask that sunscreen is applied at home before school.  If your child has a sensitivity to some sunscreens, you are welcome to send suitable sunscreen along to the school for application throughout the day.

We also ask that students have a suitable rash top (preferably long-sleeved) for swimming lessons during Terms 1 and 4.
