Sports, Swimming and Physical Education

Lincoln Primary —

Sports

Students at Lincoln Primary participate in the School Sports Programme which includes a range of sporting activities with Aquatics being a main focus in Terms 1 & 4.

During the Winter terms, rugby, soccer, hockey and netball are played with some alternative sports like lawn bowls and volleyball.

We belong to the Lincoln Zone Sports Association, which includes 18 schools from Akaroa to West Melton.

Each year we enter the Lincoln Zone Sports Assn. events, of swimming, duathlon, cross country, rugby, netball, soccer, hockey, and athletics. From these events children who place, then represent their School and Zone in the Canterbury Championships.

Senior school sport (Years 5-8) is held on Friday afternoons. We are fortunate to be able to use the facilities at the Lincoln Domain and other venues around the area.

Swimming

During the Summer months children have regular swimming instruction in the school heated learners’ or lane pools.

Swimming is part of the school’s physical education and sports programme and every child is required to participate in acquiring water confidence and swimming skills.

Should your child’s health limit their participation in swimming, please send a note to school.

Teachers will only take their classes swimming if daily water quality tests are satisfactory, the weather is suitable, and the water temperature is warm enough.

Our pools have solar heating and covers (for keeping them warm overnight).

Parents are requested to ensure that all children’s clothing and swimming gear is named, so that clothing found can be promptly returned.

Physical Education (PE) and Playtime Games

It is recommended that all senior pupils (Year 7 and 8) have a change of clothes available to wear for their PE programme.

Mouth guards are strongly encouraged to protect teeth during all contact sport activities.
