Koru Games is a multi-day, multi-sport tournament for Year 7 & 8 children from South Island schools. Unfortunately the games were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19, however were back in 2022. The sports included were Badminton, Basketball, Boccia (for physically impaired Year 5-9 athletes), Football, Hockey, Kī-o-Rahi, Korfball, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby Sevens, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Touch, Ultimate (frisbee) and Volleyball. All sports were hosted at Selwyn District venues. LPS sent teams to participate in most events - see below for more information...

Touch - 3rd overall

This year we finally got to compete at Koru Games after 2 years of Covid!  My team competed in the mixed touch grade.  We came up against some tough teams but also caught a few wins.  The tournament was loads of fun and I enjoyed playing and supporting with my team.  We also somehow left with a bronze, so very stoked with that!

Basketball Girls - 9th overall

Our team for Koru Games was Arianna, Harper, Maddi, Lexie, and Millie. The tournament was a three-a-side tournament. There were 11 teams entered and over the three days we played 14 matches and finished 9th overall.  The team improved markedly over the tournament and the skills gained will be great for future years.  Miss T

Basketball Boys Lakers Team - 1st overall

We played about 13 games over 3 days.  We won all our games and took the trophy!  Final was played against St Thomas's  It was fun, exhausting, exciting and rewarding!  Our team was Lydian, Piseth, Cam, Joel and Sam.

Basketball Boys Layups Team - 13th overall

We played about 12 games over 3 days.  We won most of them and made it into the quarter finals on Thursday.  Unfortunately we lost and placed 13th.  The team was Noah, Jonty, George, Eli, and Joshua.  Thank you to all the parents and teachers who helped us.

Badminton Girls - 8th overall/ Badminton Boys - 14th overall

The badminton teams had lots of fun with meeting new people and playing the games.  The boys came 14th and the girls came 8th.  The boys won 2 of our 7 games and the girls won 6 out of their 10 games.  To some players this was their first time playing.  We had a lot of downtime which was good.   We were able to cheer on others' games and practice.  Our doubles teams were amazing and collaborated amazingly.  With our singles they played to the best of their abilities.   There were a very wide range of styles and techniques.  Lincoln has met some lovely people such as the Prebbleton team.  They were kind and played well.  Overall the Lincoln boys and girls teams did amazingly with a positive attitude and great talent.

Table Tennis Boys - 7th overall

Played 7 games - Lost 3 games - Came 7th - Lost to Middleton Grange A and Middleton Grange B and St Thomas'.  Middleton Grange A won the boys competition.

Netball - 3rd Overall

This year we participated in Koru Games for the first time in 2 years. Our hard-working teachers put in a team for netball, and we had 9 people in our Girls Netball team. All of us really enjoyed the Koru games, despite some of our loses we are very proud of ourselves. We had one tough loss to Rakaia, but mainly smashed all the teams up until the semis and finals. We versed our nemesis, Clearview and sadly lost by one. But then we versed them again in our final and came out with the win! We won by 4 and got 3rd place overall. We are so proud of us all and we are overjoyed with our bronze medals.

Tennis - Lincoln 'red' 2nd overall and lincoln 'green' 6th overall

Last Tuesday the 2022 Koru Games started for Years 7 and 8.  The sport that me and Taylor played was tennis.  There were three students playing for two teams so we had to rotate players during the three days.  On the first day we didn't know what to expect because we were all new to this experience.  The first game we lost to Prebbleton Aves, then for the rest of the day we won all of our games.  On the second day we won all but one game; to Middleton A team by one point.  Last day of the Koru Games our Lincoln green team was coming 5th and our Lincoln red team was coming 3rd.  Sadly the Lincoln green team lost all their games that day but the Lincoln red team made a comeback and ended up 2nd out of the whole girls' tennis!

Football - A team 4th overall, B team - 27th overall

Played 11 games - drew 2, lost 2 and won the rest - Came 4th - Lost to Casebrook in the Semi final - Lost to Hillmorton for 3rd/4th playoff - With Hillmorton it went to penalties and we broke their goalkeeper's wrist.

Korfball Team 2 - 6th overall, Team 1 15th overall, Roxie won an award for great play

This year we got the lucky privilege of being able to go to Koru Games.  Korfball is a new sport in our school and considering that, we did a pretty good job.  We played at the Lincoln University and both teams had 9 games in total.  Team A went off to not a great start and lost their games on the first day, however they improved a lot and in the end they won 3 games and came 15th out of 16.  Team B were off to a great start but in the end we won 5 games and tied one.  We placed 6th out of 16 but it was an awesome time and we had heaps of fun.

Rugby Sevens - 5th = overall

The Rugby Sevens team consisted of Carter, Chace, Cobi, Eli R, Jack, Joshua K, Lachlan, Louis, Samuel, Theo, Thomas C and Tomo. The competition was tough and there were some big hits on bodies. After pool play we were in the top 6 and qualified for the trophy round. We lost to the three tops that came first, second and third so we finished fourth out of the18 teams. A great effort for the team who consisted of all year 7 pupils.

Lawn Bowls - Lincoln 'white' 6th overall, Lincoln 'red' 17th, Lincoln 'green' 18th' Mixed team 4th overall and won the Sportsmanship Award

At the Lincoln Lawn Bowls Club we had a fun time playing Bowls.  We had 4 teams: 1 Lily and Tayvie. 2 Lucy and Dana. 3 Lorna and Ava (and Harley played for Lorna when she was sick). 4 Luke and Stacey.  In the girls Team 1 came 18th Team 2 came 17th and Team 3 came 8th out of 18 girl Teams.  Our only mixed team (team 4) came 4th and Won sportsmanship award which was a Hoyts voucher.
