We have been very busy over the past two weeks here in Māhoe, read on to find out what we have been up to.

Art

Last week we FINALLY got to use our glass jars that were brought into school at the beginning of the term. These were used to create a beautiful Mother's Day gift for all the wonderful mums in our learning space.

Each child painted their jar with their mum in mind, there was lots of chatter around the room about what each person's mum would like and how they were so excited to see what they thought of them. Inside the jar the students wrote all the reasons why they loved their mum and tied it all together with a ribbon.

We hope you all appreciated this thoughtful gift.

Maths

This week we have been learning about Measurement, in particular, length. We have been discussing the standard units we measure things in; mm, cm, m and km and non-standard units; anything you can find!

On Wednesday the students were given a Guinness World Record to investigate. They had to measure the record using a ruler (standard unit) and then use classroom items (non-standard unit) to measure and make sense of how long this record was. There were some very strange records... ask your child which one they investigated.

STEM Challenge

Another exciting activity we have completed this week was a STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) challenge. The students were given a bag of equipment and 25 minutes to create a roller coaster that a marble could ride.

It was a wonderful display of team work, perseverance, problem solving and experimenting.

Cross Country

On Thursday, Māhoe, along with the rest of Syndicate 2, 3 & 4 walked down to the domain to compete in the LPS cross country.

Our students have been training hard for this event, with daily fitness involving running around the school courts or field to build up their stamina. Well done to all the Māhoe students who took part and a huge congratulations to our place getters; Alex, Greer, Isabelle, Adeline, Max, Ciarán, Liam, Sammy & Archie!
