Koru Games

Lincoln Primary - September 19, 2023

The Koru Games was set up to provide South Island Year 7 & 8 students with an accessible opportunity to develop their individual skill sets through playing team sport for their school. While competition is acknowledged as an inherent part of the Games, a strong ethical base underpins all competitions and playing within the spirit of the Games is an expectation for all. This year the games took place from Tuesday 19 - Thursday 21 September.

See below for a short summary of events over the last few days, and plenty of photos.  This year's Koru Games saw some huge successes for our teams, but most importantly we saw our LPS values being carried through and akonga having a fantastic time.

Table Tennis

Both our boy's teams had successful pool play winning all but 1 game but just missed out on finals.  Congrats to the Red and the Green team getting in the top 12 out of 22 teams!

Our Mixed Lawn Bowls team of Luke and Ava played outstandingly at Koru Games, placing 2nd in their grade. Games were played with wonderful spirit as competitors helped each other and formed new friendships during the three days of competition. Awesome work team!

Basketball

Our basketball teams had some positive results and represented our school values well. The team finished middle of the table and learnt some valuable skills in communication, breaking down defences by quick and accurate passing and sensible decision making. Well done to our basketball students.

Volleyball

Our Y8 Girls Volleyball team made the quarter finals then played the highest ranking team in the table (Ashburton College) who had a convincing win against us and knocked the LPS volleyball team out of the competition. The weather was beautiful over the three days apart from some wind on the last day. Our students enjoyed being part of the Koru Games and have made friends with Korfball and Volleyball players from other school's teams. Most students said that they would love to be a part of this tournament again.
