Deb Phipps —

Our trip to the Art Gallery and Library was a wonderful day out!

We have many highlights from the trip, however a huge standout was the bus trip! It was so fun to travel by bus into town and back. Some seats faced backwards, some sideways and we could see streets and cars from new heights!

The Art Gallery was really exciting. We had a special tour of the Art Gallery and looked at a range of abstract art. We saw chairs and desks on the roof, giant shopping lists and art that was made from different shapes to share a message. Bianca was our teacher at the Art Gallery. She taught us a way that we could create our own abstract art and how to make a range of colours from the three primary colours. First we drew our initials on our piece of paper. We filled the whole page and overlapped the letters. We coloured in the gaps with red, blue, yellow and the colours we created using the primary colours. We figured out how to make purple using red and blue, and by adding a little bit of white we could make a light purple!

The walk between the Art Gallery and the Library was an adventure too! We walked past a cafe called Miro! Unfortunately we didn’t stop here for lunch. We saw lots of people driving as a part of their job, people having their lunch break, and buildings being demolished by diggers!

The Library was huge! There were so many floors and so many stairs! We had two activities to complete in the library. One activity was a scavenger hunt to find the Te Reo place name cards and put them on the correct place on the map. The other activity was about travel to New Zealand, looking at the important things to bring if we had to travel by boat for months to arrive in New Zealand. We had a little bit of free time in the Library too. We got to play in the discovery area with the lego, dress ups, the tree and the cave.

The trip was a really positive experience for all of Miro. We were out in public and interacting with different members of the community, showing respect to other children in our class, teachers and parent helpers.

Thank you very much to all of our amazing parent helpers who supported us on our trip. We really appreciate you taking time out of your day to help out with our trip and getting involved in our activities.
