Grandparents/Grandfriends Day

Lincoln Primary —

This Wednesday we hosted our wonderful Grandparents/Grandfriends Day here at LPS.

Thanks to the Grandparents and Grandfriends who attended and made this day so special for all of us.  We loved showing you around our kura (school) and showing off how incredible our ākonga (students) are.

Thanks also to the PTA for arranging a morning tea "fit for royalty"; parent helpers and all those who provided plates of food; the staff who worked tirelessly to arrange this; Ellesmere Butchery for supplying the delicious sausages; and perhaps most of all to our students for making it a day to remember and making us so proud as a school.

Special mention to Mrs Laura Mummery and Miss Ann An for all their work arranging this day.

Across the school we had a variety of activities happening in and out of classrooms during the day.  All of the feedback we got from Grandparents and Grandfriends was that it was engaging, exciting, interesting and enlightening to see the way our tamariki learn in schools these days - in some cases, quite a change from their own experiences!  We have a short summary of activities below:

Kea class enjoyed throwing and catching practice, crafting, writing and drawing and reading with their Grandparents.

Piwakawaka played team games, reading and writing together and planted Little Gardens.

Pākura enjoyed singing and question time with then/now schooling, as well as showing off their learning from the perspective of a teacher with dialogic reading "tuition".

Miro showed their Grandparents their maths learning with problem solving and maths games, then writing about and reading to their Grandparents.

Māhoe invited Lesley from Bee Awesome in for a day learning about bees and working in the classroom on bee-related activities - smoke everywhere!

Tarawhatu demonstrated coding with Scratch Jnr and Bee Bots - quite a learning curve for some Grandfriends!

Kererū interviewed their Grandparents about what primary school life was like for them while writing about school in 2022, then had reading activities in the afternoon.

Korimako had an exciting class day of The Code and reading; then moved to the field for athletics practice.

Kuaka had maths in the morning and then moved to our beautiful Library, with Structured Literacy in the afternoon.

Karoro also had maths learning in the morning and Structured Literacy in the afternoon.  Lots of mentions from Grandparents about how our learning differs now!

Toroa showed their Grandparents maths and Structured literacy in the morning, with a visit to the library and writing in the afternoon.

Whio had Inquiry in the first block with Athletics training after morning tea, and Art and Kapa Haka later on.

Kōtuku showed their Grandparents a day in the classroom with Inquiry, Fitness, Uploads and Athletics.
