Amy Smaill | Kaiāwhina - Te Ao Māori - Māori Support

Emma Thorpe —

I grew up under the shelter of Banks Peninsula on the banks of the Liffey Stream. My ancestors are from overseas, I am from Lincoln.

He Kaiāwhina - Te Ao Māori ahau nō te Kura o Tauhinu. I am the Kaiāwhina - Te Ao Māori at Lincoln Primary School. I was brought on board by the kura in 2021 to tautoko (support) the kaiako (teachers) with their Te Ao Māori curriculum two days a week. There has been so much growth in our kura over the last few years and I enjoy seeing the progress of the ākonga (students) and kaiako every year. My goal is to create and plan engaging, fun sessions for our tamariki with lots of waiata and games. I look forward to meeting more of our whānau Māori and creating a rōpū whānau this year.

My partner and I have two tamariki which keep me very busy outside of school time. I also love playing squash, mountain biking, hiking, travelling, reading and spending time with whānau and friends.

Ka nui tēnā, nō reira tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātou katoa.
