PYP Inquiry
Syndicate 1 Update
Year 1
The Year 1 students in Korimako and Kererū are busy investigating the answers to their wonderings. We have been listening to songs, reading stories, watching videos, completing artwork and asking experts. The tamaraki are enjoying the research component of inquiry learning.
One of our PYP Learner Profile Attributes is ‘Caring’. In our junior classes, we are encouraging the students to think about the needs and feelings of others. At our recent Syndicate 1 assembly, we celebrated some of the children who have shown this attribute in our classrooms. Eight students were awarded certificates by their teachers.
As part of our ‘Sharing the Planet’ inquiry, we will be looking at how we can not only care for people, but also our environment. If you would like to learn more about this attribute and how parents can help to develop caring children, please view the following link: https://www.gspdx.org/IB-Learner-Profile-Caring
Year 2
We are excited to begin a new PYP inquiry under the transdisciplinary theme “How We Express Ourselves.” This inquiry will explore the central idea that artists use imagination to communicate ideas and feelings through visual art.
Our learning will focus on the ways artists use imagination to create visual art and the way visual art communicates ideas and feelings.
Through these explorations, we will also introduce and practise important learner attributes and skills such as working collaboratively and being self-managers. These skills help tamariki take ownership of their learning, contribute to group tasks, and reflect on their actions and responsibilities.
To spark curiosity and engagement, we began with a captivation experience. The teachers collaboratively created an art piece in front of the children. Tamariki were invited to observe, notice, and share their wonderings. Their responses were rich with questions and thoughtful insights, showing a natural interest in the creative process and how people work together to express ideas.
Over the coming weeks, tamariki will explore different visual art forms, reflect on how artists express themselves, and create their own art to share ideas and feelings. We are looking forward to the imaginative and expressive journey ahead!
