Ruru News

Deb Phipps —

What’s been happening in Ruru?

We’ve had a wonderful few weeks back at school and getting into Term 4. It’s been so great to see everyone back with big smiles and sunscreen on ready for the warmer weather!

We are so lucky to have Miss Andrews with us for 4 weeks on her teaching placement. She is second year at Canterbury University and is fitting in with us beautifully. She is reading us ‘The Wild Robot’ which we are really into as some of us saw the movie in the school holidays!

For Writing - we have been learning how to write Information Reports, but before the actual writing, we need to research and learn about note taking!

We had some QR codes we used in our groups to take us to some great websites that were about the animals we are writing about - (ruru, tūī, pīwakawaka, stoat and kea! I wonder where we have heard a lot about those animals?!)

This is a bit of a challenge for some of us but we are working very hard, and have been super engaged!

Reading has been a little bit different this term, first of all we started using some ‘Reading Cards’ which had questions on the back for us to answer and a special marking sheet so we could mark it ourselves!

This week, we started whole class novel reading with an interesting book called ‘Petronus’

We are loving learning some exciting language for our word wall, reading a new unknown book and using our imaginations thinking about what some of the story is about and what might happen.

For maths, we were using the algorithm method for addition and subtraction using 3-4 digit numbers. We are now working on Multiplication and Division for a few weeks and have been getting some challenging word problems - some based on football and Harry Potter!

Hopefully this lovely weather can stick around - thanks for sunscreening and supplying pōtaes for your tamariki!

If you have any questions or anything, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Have a super fortnight!

Ngā Mihi,

Renée
