Brain Development In The First 5 Years Of A Childs Life
The first five years of a child’s life are critical for their overall development. By the age of 5, a child's brain has reached about 90% of its adult size. The experiences they encounter during their first 5 years contribute to emotional and social skills, language development, physical skills, resilience and many more. According to raisingchildren.net.au, children’s brains develop connections faster in the first 5 years than at any other time in their lives. This is the time when the foundations for learning, health and behaviour throughout life are laid down. Due to this, remember that the early years of your child's life is the perfect time to stimulate their brain, expose them to positive experiences, teach them great values, let them learn from mistakes, deal with problems and guide them when needed. Here is a great TED talk from a young girl who gives us a great insight to the importance of brain development in the early years.
