Term 3 Sport
The Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics have inspired us all to be our best on and off the sports field.
Our Prebbleton Olympic Day has been rescheduled for the last Thursday of this term. Please check with your child which country they are representing. Some new families have joined us this term, your child's mahi tahi group teacher will be in touch to let you know their country.
Lincoln Zone rugby and netball: After rain and wet grounds delayed this tournament several times, we finally got to compete in the annual zone competition. Prebbleton traditionally always does really well in this tournament, and 2021 was no different.
A big shout out to our referees for the tournament. We had several former students return for the day to help us out. Thanks to Ella, Olive, Grace, Ethan and Ryan.
Another big shout out to the PTA who funded our new netball uniforms. The teams looked awesome out on the courts in their new dresses!
Results:
Netball- Year 5/6 A team: 1st=, B team: 1st. Year 7/8 A team: 4th, B team: 1st.
Rugby- Year 5/6 A team: 1st, Year 7/8 A team: 1st.
On the day, our B rugby teams weren't able to compete due to the ground conditions. However, they have the annual 'Cawthorn McDermott Cup' match coming up later in the term, and they will be able to participate in that. This is a hotly contested match!
The Canterbury Schools Winter Tournament and Canterbury duathlon have been postponed until further notice - we know that our athletes and netball, rugby and hockey teams will do us all proud at their tournaments, if and when they are on.
Sport is also a mental game, and earlier this term we had several senior school teams competing at a chess tournament. This was the first tournament for these Prebbleton students, and I know some are already thinking about the next chess tournament!
Thank you to all of the parents and supporters who are able to come down to support, coach, manage and transport our teams. We couldn't do it without you. We understand lots of parents are working and know that you are always cheering us on whether you are there or not. We are so lucky to have such a supportive Prebbleton community.

This term has also seen the start of our very first cheerleading team. Mrs Noonan has been working hard with a group of Year 5-6s; they have a competition in October that they are working towards.
Our four Jump Jam teams have all qualified for the end of year South Island Finals. Thank you to the PTA for purchasing the latest DVD for us! Their new and modified routines are looking great so far!
Fingers crossed that the Year 5-6 summer tournament will go ahead in week 10. Teams are being selected at the moment.
