Rākau News

Hannah Thomas —

In Rākau, we have been learning about the living world by looking into MRS GREN and what it means for something to be living or not living. This week the children are learning about the different habitats that animals/plants live in, e.g. alpine, arctic, grasslands, and deserts. Next week the children will be discovering how plants and animals are classified into different groups, e.g. vertebrates and invertebrates.

We were so impressed with the children’s attitude and determination towards their cross country training. On the day, the children gave their best effort and it was great to see our school values on show. Well done and good luck to those students who will be representing Prebbleton School at the Lincoln Zone Cross Country next Tuesday.

The students in Rākau have been working hard on videos to show you how they are completing algorithms. This way may be new to some of you. We are following the advice of Dr Audrey Tan, a Maths consultant we had some professional development with recently. We look forward to sharing these with you on Hero.

The children are enjoying our new rotation Whakawhiti where they are seeing different teachers for different subjects; music, drama, P.E, and art. We are seeing a marked improvement in our throwing and catching skills during our P.E rotation. Here are some examples of the work the children have completed during the art rotation.

At the end of last term, the students shared their projects on their family’s relationship with New Zealand or a group that has immigrated to New Zealand. These projects were fantastic. It was great to see how keen they were to share what they had found out about their families with each other.
