Team 3-4 News
Team 3-4 have had a busy but fantastic start to the term. Highlights of our last few weeks include participating in 'The Block Bedroom Challenge' and our Flips and Tumbles sessions.
Our maths strand focus for the term is shape, and we have learnt about both 2D and 3D shapes. After finding out the names of different shapes we learnt how to identify the properties of a shape, including the number of faces, edges and vertices that they have.
We then put our learning into context by participating in The Block Bedroom Challenge. The children could choose to work independently, or with a buddy. They had certain criteria they had to meet. Each bedroom had to have a door and window. They also had to include at least 3 2D shapes and 3 3D shapes within their bedroom. The 3D shapes had to be created from nets, rather than the children just using an existing box or container. After planning their bedroom the children then sourced materials and built their bedroom. We were blown away by their creative inclusions and inventive solutions to problems.
Each studio had their bedrooms judged by our 'experts', Ms Alexander and Mr Russell. They chose three bedrooms, from each studio, to progress into our grand final. Thank you to the judges for their expert critiques.
The final judging was conducted by our parents who came along to view the bedrooms. The People's Choice Overall Award went to Ayla R with Ben H coming second and the team of Max M and Oliver L coming in third place. Congratulations.
Also a big well done to the finalists from each studio. They were Ayla, William and Jonathan, and Olivia and Jasmine from Moana 3&4. From Moana 5&6 we had Levi and Alex, Pippa K, and Brooke and Pippa L-S. Moana 7&8 finalists were Ben, Max and Oliver, and Hannah.
We've also been lucky enough to have Flips and Tumbles visit the team for a couple of sessions. The children thoroughly enjoyed the programme that they offered, in addition to learning a variety of skills. Thank you to Rachel McLaren who managed to get some great action shots for us.
