What's been happening in the Hub?
We ended Term 3 on a high - hot chips and some fun at the Prebbleton Skate Park. This term has started at full speed - keep reading to see what we've been up to.
Hubsters are currently completing an SVA 'Community Guardians' Project in their homeroom class. This authentic learning is giving our students the opportunity to take responsibility for planning and actioning a Volunteer Day. Manu 1 is working towards supporting the SPCA, Manu 2 is fundraising to create 'toiletry packs' for the homeless, and Manu 3 is learning to knit so they can make Peggy squares to create a blanket to donate to the Neonatal Unit at Christchurch Hospital.
Another focus for our learning this term has been within the Arts curriculum. We are studying 'Artists of Aotearoa' - Rita Angus, Ralph Hotere and Bill Hammond, and have created our own artworks, inspired by what we've learnt. We are showing some of these in assembly tomorrow so we hope you can come to see our paintings.
For Science Bites, we are learning about Forces. Everyone participated in some general lessons with their homeroom teacher, covering Newton's Laws and experimenting with forces in a range of fun activities. This week we are splitting into four groups to take a more in-depth look at the contexts: Flight, Cycling Aerodynamics, Rollercoasters and Simple Machines.
The Year 8s are busy completing pages for their 2019 Yearbook. A big thank you to Leanna Singleton for all her efforts with this.
