Busy times in the Hub!

We can’t believe it's the final term of the year, and for our Year 8 students, it's the final term of their primary school life at Prebbleton School.

It was a very busy end of Term 3, with the students participating in various sports in the Koru Games. Students played rugby, football, tennis, lawn bowls, netball, basketball, table tennis, badminton, hockey and kī-o-rahi. Once again, our students represented our school with immense pride and showed our school values on and off the field.

Congratulations to Mia van D and Isabelle C for taking out third place in lawn bowls and to Lucy B and Emme G for winning the tennis, defending their first place from last year.

Last week, our Year 7 students hit the water by building rafts, river safety, and sailing. This was the Year 7 EOTC days made up from Term 1 due to weather conditions. Even though Tuesday was a bit on the chilly side, this didn’t deter the Year 7’s from getting stuck in, learning new skills, developing teamwork skills and enjoying new experiences.

This term in maths, we will identify and measure different angles and then learn about statistics. In statistics, the students will collect, analyse and interpret data, determine variables showing patterns and trends, and discuss and present results. In literacy, the Year 7 students explore the novel The Giver, and the Year 8 students learn about William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet and his other plays. We will continue our Health Unit as time didn’t allow us to dive into it fully last term. We are going to look at keeping ourselves safe on the internet. We are very keen to make a good fist of this as this is a very important issue that can affect the lives of many students in the Year 7 and 8 age group.

Next week, we will be starting our visual arts rotations. The students have opted into an art class. The students will explore Hudertwasser, Georgia O’Keefe (Sculpture), Andy Warhol (digital art) and Ralph Hotere.

The Year 7 students are getting themselves ready to become leaders of the school, and the Year 8 students are preparing to sign off from Prebbleton School with a great legacy. It is another busy term, but that's life in the Intermediate Hub, and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
